The Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, on Tuesday held a strategic security meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, at the Police Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, as part of renewed efforts to address emerging security challenges in the state.
The meeting, which was held behind closed doors, followed recent legislative concerns and resolutions of the House over rising insecurity, particularly the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area and other incidents reported in parts of Oke-Ogun.
Ogundoyin commended the Police Commissioner for what he described as a prompt and impactful start since his deployment to Oyo State, while also praising the efforts of security agencies in maintaining relative peace across the state.
He expressed confidence in ongoing rescue operations aimed at securing the release of the abducted pupils and teachers, noting that security agencies were working tirelessly to ensure their safe return.
The Speaker also called for strengthened security architecture in border communities and remote areas, which he said were often exploited by criminal elements to carry out kidnappings and other violent crimes.
He stressed the need for improved intelligence gathering, increased patrol operations, and sustained proactive policing strategies to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety.
Discussions during the meeting also centred on the implementation of resolutions recently passed by the Oyo State House of Assembly in response to security concerns across various communities in the state.
Ogundoyin reaffirmed the commitment of the legislature to support all lawful measures aimed at strengthening security, maintaining that the protection of lives and property remains a top priority.
He expressed optimism that continued collaboration among the legislature, security agencies, and the executive arm of government would further consolidate peace, stability, and public confidence in Oyo State.
