Association of Orphanage & Home Operators in Nigeria (ASOHON) has condemned activities of the owner and operator of Nma Charity & Social Mothers Rehabilitation Centre” at Umunkpeyi Nvosi in Isiala Ngwa South Local Council of Abia State.

The facility was raided on Sunday by troops from 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army base, Ohafia, and rescued 21 pregnant girls and two babies.

The state government quickly withdrew the operational licence of the centre for violating the rules set for such facility operators.

ASOHON in a statement signed by its South East Grand Patron, Chief Akpulonu Godson, yesterday, condemned the alleged operator of the home, Mrs. Nma Lilian Achumba, reported to be at large.

“We as an association dissociate ourselves from her illegal activities and also want to use this medium to thank the Ministry and the security agencies that acted accordingly. We advise other operators to avoid illegal operations no matter the state they are operating from,” ASOHON said.

Noting that the law permits baby  adoption but must follow due and legal  process, the South East Zonal Patron warned ASOHON members against engaging in illegal  practices  or illegalities  in any form but strictly abiding  by the provisions of the extant laws,  as violators would be doing so at their own peril.
