Ortom hands over to successor, says he is open to probe

Outgoing Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, has handed over to his successor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, at a brief ceremony in Makurdi.
He said the total income that accrued to his government was N734.9 billion as at April 30, 2023, while total recurrent expenditure amounted to N735.6 billion within the period under review.
Ortom explained that the state’s debt profile was N187.5 billion.
He said the liabilities were inclusive of pensions, salary arrears, loans and bonds.
Ortom said he had negotiated a debt reduction with the Federal Government and obtained a debt swap of N71.6 billion
He clarified that after the reliefs, the debt profile stood at N45.2 billion.
During a church service, yesterday, in Makurdi, the outgoing governor vowed to stay back in the state and respond to enquiries if the need arises.
