• Governor’s aides resign, dump PDP
• We’re not barren, gov’s wife chides Oshiomhole

A former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, and the Labour Party (LP) candidate in the September 21 governorship election in the state, Olumide Akpata, at the weekend, slammed Governor Godwin Obaseki, scoring his administration low.

Oshiomhole called on Edo people to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and be wary of Obaseki and his godson, Asue Ighodalo, saying that the governor has failed, and the duo do not have anything good to offer the people of the state.

Speaking during the APC ward-to-ward campaign in Udaba, Edo North Senatorial District, Oshiomhole said that the APC governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, is a home breed unlike the candidate the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, who knows nothing about the people.
On his part, the Akpata noted that the Obaseki administration had brought untold hardship to the people.

In a statement yesterday, the LP candidate said that the suffering of the Edo people had reached unprecedented levels under Obaseki, who began his tenure under the APC and now concluding under the PDP.

He said: “The current administration celebrates our 33rd anniversary with pomp and pageantry, brandishing statistics of its supposed achievements. Yet, as I have traversed the length and breadth of our state, from Benin City to Auchi to Urom, I have witnessed a stark disconnect between these lofty claims and the harsh realities.

HOWEVER, less than two weeks before the governorship election in Edo State, four of Obaseki’s aides resigned.  The former Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) to the Governor also resigned from the PDP. Dr. Pamela Archer also resigned as Special Adviser to Owan East Local Government Council.

The resignation letters dated September 4 and September 6, 2024, were addressed to the chairman of the council and chairmen of their various wards.  The former aides to the governor are Osayande Emenya, Ward 6, Henry Osaheni Ukato, Ward 6, Efosa Edo-Osagie Wardd 6, Oredo Local Council and Timothy Edokpolor, Ward 8, Ikpoba Okha Local Council.

Emenya, who was the former youth leader of Ward 6 and former organising secretary of Oredo Local Council of the party, as well as Efosa Edo-Osagie, hinged their resignation due to the non-payment of salaries since their appointment as SSAs.

The duo and others also attributed their resignation from their appointments and the party to the alleged marginalisation of the aboriginal members of the party.

MEANWHILE, the wife of the Edo State Governor, Betsy Obaseki, at the
Weekend, urged childless women to see themselves not as barren but as fruitful, potential and proud mothers of children that would come in God’s time.

Obaseki, accompanied by the wife of the PDP governorship candidate, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Ighodalo, shared these comforting words during a Zoom meeting with Edo women in the Diaspora.

Mrs. Obaseki’s comments were in response to a viral video in which Oshiomhole made remarks about her being childless.  Addressing over 200 women who joined the Zoom meeting from various countries, Obaseki reminded them that everyone was created by God for a purpose.
