Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo has commended Nigerian teachers for their resilience, commitment, imparting knowledge and making the lives of their students better.
He gave the commendation at the grand finale of this year’s Maltina Teacher of the Year (MTOY) award, saying the reward of teachers is in heaven and in the success of their products but it is important to appreciate the efforts of exceptional teachers in the country.
While commending teachers who participated in the competition and Nigeria Breweries Plc for the initiative, Osinbajo said the competition was yielding great results, not only in the teaching and education sectors but also in the economy as a whole.
At the event held at Oriental hotel, Lagos, a teacher from Federal Government College, Plateau, Alaku Ayiwulu, emerged winner of the 2022 Maltina Teacher of the Year Award, defeating 1, 027 others who participated in the competition.
For the emerging winner of the MTOY award, Ayiwulu would receive a total cash prize of N6.5 million from Nigerian Breweries – Felix Ohiwerei Trust Fund, while the first and second runners-up, Musa Saidu from Borno State and Ifeoma Stella from Enugu State, won N1.5 million and N1,250,000 respectively.
Speaking at the event, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Commissioner for Education, Folashade Adefisayo, appreciated Nigerian Breweries for the initiative and investment in Nigerian teachers through the MTOY annual award.
Sanwo-Olu said the award is a great innovation that serves to motivate teachers and reward their contribution to nation-building.
