The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and leader of the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, Dr Adegboyega Oyetola, has explained that the party’s endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term was driven by his performance, courage and vision for Nigeria’s future.
Oyetola had, on 14 February 2026, led the Osun APC to formally endorse Tinubu for re-election at a grand reception held at Freedom Park in Osogbo. The event was attended by party stalwarts and supporters and also served as a welcoming ceremony for lawmakers and their supporters who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the APC.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser, Dr Bolaji Akinola, the minister said the endorsement reflected confidence in the President’s leadership and reform agenda.
According to him, President Tinubu took “difficult but necessary decisions at the outset of his administration to rescue the nation’s economy from the brink of collapse.”
Oyetola pointed to key reforms introduced by the President, including fiscal and monetary measures aimed at stabilising the economy, attracting foreign investment and restoring confidence in Nigeria’s financial system. He said the President’s policies were already yielding positive outcomes, including improved revenue generation and greater transparency in public finance.
The former Osun State governor also highlighted the administration’s focus on infrastructure development, citing investments in roads, rail, ports and energy, which he said were opening new opportunities for job creation and sustainable economic growth.
On social welfare, Oyetola commended Tinubu’s intervention programmes, including student loan initiatives and support for small and medium-sized enterprises, noting that they demonstrated a compassionate approach to governance.
He added that security remained a top priority under the President’s leadership, with improved coordination among security agencies and enhanced support for law enforcement to strengthen national stability.
Oyetola further described Tinubu as a seasoned administrator with a record of transformative leadership, referencing his tenure in Lagos State and his longstanding role in progressive politics.
He stressed the importance of continuity, saying a second term would enable the President to consolidate ongoing reforms, complete major infrastructure projects and stabilise the economy.
“President Tinubu has demonstrated courage, capacity and commitment to reposition Nigeria. What he needs now is time to complete the good job he has started,” Oyetola said, assuring that APC members in Osun State were fully aligned behind the President’s re-election bid.
He also expressed confidence that the APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, would win the Osun State governorship election scheduled for 15 August 2026.
The statement was signed by Dr Bolaji Akinola, Special Adviser to the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy.
