A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Osogbo, Osun State, yesterday, remanded a 42-year-old man, Taiwo Olaniyi in the Correctional centre for allegedly killing three persons.

The police had arraigned the suspected serial killer on four-count charge of murder and conspiracy.

Police prosecutor, John Idoko, informed the court that the defendant conspired with others now at large to murder two women and a man, Rasidat Mufutau, Anifowose Basirat and Abdulrahaman Afolabi on June 28 at about 5:40a.m. at Ofatedo, Ido-Osun, Osun State.

The charge read: “That you, Taiwo Olaniyi and others now at large on June 28, at about 5:40a.m. at Ofatedo, Ido-Osun, Osun State, did conspire among yourselves to commit a felony to wit murder.”

The Assistant Superintendent of Police said the defendant’s offence is contrary to and punishable under Sections 324 and 319(1) of the Criminal Code Cap. 34 Vol. Il Laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

Meanwhile, the Magistrate, O.A Daramola, could not take the plea of the defendant because it is outside the court’s jurisdiction, being a capital offence.

The Magistrate, therefore, remanded the accused person at the Ilesa Correctional Centre and ordered the prosecutor to furnish the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) at the State Ministry of Justice with the duplicate case file for legal advice.

She also asked Idoko to submit a document showing that the case file had been received by the DPP and adjourned till November 1, for mention.
