Ahead of the Osun State governorship election slated for Saturday, incumbent governor seeking re-election, Ademola Adeleke, has said he lacks the resources to engage in vote buying.

Adeleke made this known while addressing citizens of the state at a town hall meeting on Tuesday.

He said, “As an administration, we do not have the resources to engage in vote buying. We have been using state resources to pay local government workers since our local government allocation was withheld almost two years ago. I do not need to buy votes to win election. I have been giving workers palliative since 2023. I believe in my work to speak for me.”

The governor then dismissed claims that his administration is centred on empowering his hometown of Ede while neglecting other areas.

He said, “Reports of Edenization in our administration is false. Yesterday, I just commissioned a flyover in Ile Ife, and I am not from Ile Ife. I have commissioned dualised roads in Ila Orangun, Iwo, Osogbo, Ilesa, etc, all built by our administration. Should I abandon Ede because it is my town?”

Adeleke thanks Tinubu after EFCC unfroze Osun account

The Guardian reported that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) froze the Osun State Government account on the grounds of suspicious withdrawals.

The action generated backlash against the agency, prompting President Bola Tinubu to issue a directive for the reversal.

Speaking on the issue, Adeleke said, “I appreciate Mr. President’s call during the recent EFCC freeze order on the state government’s account. I was promised a free and fair election by President Tinubu.”
