Osun LP candidate, Yussuff, narrates threat to life as gunmen attack residence

The candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for Osun State governorship election, Lasun Yussuff, yesterday, alleged that some gunmen attacked his residence at Ilobu in Irepodun Local Council of the state.
He said the gunmen started shooting at his house, located at Oke-Ima area of the town around 1:00 a.m. midnight on Monday and operated for about 20 minutes.
Yussuff said he was rattled and had to lie down flat in his sitting room alongside his family members that had visited to celebrate Eid-el-Kabir with him.
According to him, the gunmen opened fire at the glass windows of his sitting room and bedroom with the intent of killing, adding that he was relieved when his security details repelled the attack.
Yussuff accused Governor Gboyega Oyetola and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of being behind the shooting at his residence.
BUT reacting, Oyetola denied attacking Yussuff, saying that the former lawmaker arranged the shooting to give him a bad name.
Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ismail Omipidan, while speaking at a conference in Osogbo, said Yussuff was no threat to the re-election bid of the governor and urged him to desist from staging attacks that were capable of giving people the impression that there was tension in the state ahead of the polls.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state said she received information about the attack on Monday morning and that a team of policemen had been dispatched to the area.
MEANWHILE, Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi, has read a riot act to operatives of the Corps drafted to cover the election.
He tasked the personnel on clearing obstructions from roads, carrying out rescue operations in cases of emergencies and maintenance of orderliness in polling booths.
In a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, Oyeyemi mandated the officers to ensure effective collaboration with the police, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other security agencies in enforcement of restrictions on vehicular movement.
IN another event, leaders and chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo; members of the Central Working Committee, National Campaign Council, APC governors and others are expected at a rally in Osogbo in support of the party’s candidate for the Osun 2022 governorship election, Adegboyega Oyetola.
The grand rally reception planning committee, in a statement by its spokesperson, Funke Egbemode, said the rally would not just be a gathering of party faithful but also lovers of democracy and good governance.
ALSO, LP presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, will tomorrow storm Osogbo, Osun State capital to rally support for Yussuff.
Media aide to the governorship candidate, Oyewole Oladimeji, said Obi would lead the final campaign scheduled to hold tomorrow in the state capital.
