Former two-time Abia State All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) guber candidate, Dr. Alex Otti, yesterday, won the state Labour Party (LP) governorship ticket for the 2023 elections after polling 454 votes in the primary held in Umuahia, the state capital.

Also declared winners in the poll conducted using Option A4 mode, which had Mr. Innocent Okeke as the Returning Officer, were a serving member of the House of Representatives, Darlington Nwokocha, elected to contest for Abia Central Senatorial District, Ginger Onwusibe for the state House of Assembly to represent Isiala Ngwa North-South Federal Constituency and Chief Obi Aguocha as the candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency.

Addressing party members after the victory declarations, Otti promised to rescue Abia from its oppressors, who he accused to have held the state hostage for many years.

He recalled that his two previous attempts as the APGA guber candidate were truncated by those he described as enemies of Abia, and assured the state that 2023 would be his year of total victory.

Otti, who appreciated his party members and teeming supporters for giving him the mandate, declared that the days of youth unemployment and non-payment of workers’ salaries in Abia would be over if he is elected governor of the state.
