Over 110 water schemes functional in Delta, says commissioner

More than 110 water schemes, made up of new and rehabilitated ones, are functioning in various parts of Delta State.

Delta State Commissioner for Water Resources, Samuel Mariere, disclosed this in Asaba, while speaking with journalists on activities of his ministry.

The commissioner revealed that the Asaba capital territory water schemes, made up of Asaba Water Scheme, Okpanam Water Scheme and Ibuzor Water Scheme, on completion, will be managed by the contractors for one year before they would be paid.

This, according to the commissioner, would enable engineers from World Bank to confirm availability water in homes before receiving their payment.

Mariere, who said the World Bank fund is not a grant but loan secured by Federal Government on behalf of states, noted that communities, such as Ewvreni, Osubi Oleh, Eruwa, Akugbene, Otowhodo, Iyede-Ame, among others, are beneficiaries.

The commissioner assured residents of the readiness of the ministry to ensure potable water in all nooks and crannies of the state, adding that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is committed to various water projects in the state.
