The Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA) Global Resource Initiative), has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigeria’s security forces following the successful rescue of kidnapped victims in Oyo State.

In a press statement released on Saturday, July 11, 2026, the rights monitor expressed deep appreciation for the swift coordination and professionalism displayed by security agencies in securing the victims’ freedom and reuniting them with their families.

According to the group, the successful operation serves as a vital boost to public confidence regarding the state’s capacity to protect its citizens.

However, while celebrating the rescue, HURMA’s Executive Director, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak, stressed that temporary successes must give way to sustained, long-term security strategies. The group called on the Federal Government to intensify its efforts in upholding its primary constitutional mandate.

“While we celebrate this success, HURMA calls on the Federal Government to do more in fulfilling its primary constitutional responsibility of safeguarding the lives and welfare of all Nigerians, as enshrined in Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution,” Isiak stated.

To combat the persistent threat of kidnapping and insecurity across the country, HURMA outlined three critical areas requiring immediate government intervention on intelligence and community policing, accountability and victim support.

“A severe tightening of intelligence-gathering mechanisms and the robust deployment of community policing models across all 36 states.

“The aggressive prosecution of both the perpetrators and the high-level sponsors behind kidnapping syndicates to serve as a strong deterrence.

“The provision of comprehensive psychosocial care and structured reintegration support for survivors dealing with trauma.

The rights group reiterated its ongoing commitment to monitoring, documenting, and partnering with law enforcement agencies to protect the fundamental rights to life and dignity for all Nigerians.

While thanking President Tinubu for his leadership in this specific operation, HURMA urged the administration not to relent until absolute peace is restored and no Nigerian has to live in fear.
