The member representing Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Olajide Odidiomo, has inspected an abandoned bridge linking Ring Road, Elewura and Orita Challenge areas of Ibadan, Oyo State, promising to engage relevant stakeholders towards its restoration.

 

Odidiomo, who is also the Oyo South senatorial candidate of the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM), conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the bridge to ascertain its condition and the challenges its abandonment has created for residents, motorists, traders and other road users.

 

During the visit, the lawmaker interacted with residents and users of the route to obtain first-hand information on the difficulties caused by the abandoned infrastructure.

 

He stressed the importance of elected representatives physically inspecting infrastructure and projects affecting their constituents, saying such assessments were necessary to properly understand their impact on the people.

 

The abandoned bridge, which provides an important link between communities and major commercial and residential areas around Ring Road, Elewura and Orita Challenge, has become a source of concern for residents and motorists who depend on the route for their daily activities.

 

Odidiomo, a two-term federal lawmaker, said infrastructure that directly affected the daily lives and economic activities of residents should not be allowed to deteriorate without appropriate attention.

 

He said effective representation required elected officials to identify challenges within their constituencies, assess them personally and pursue appropriate solutions through relevant authorities.

 

According to him, the inspection would enable him to better understand the scope of work required and the circumstances surrounding the abandonment of the bridge.

 

He assured residents that the findings from the assessment would guide further engagements with relevant stakeholders and authorities on possible avenues for intervention.

 

Odidiomo said the bridge was more than a physical structure, describing it as a critical component of the road network connecting communities and facilitating the movement of people, goods and services.

 

He noted that restoring critical infrastructure in strategic locations could improve mobility, reduce pressure on alternative routes and boost local economic activities.

 

The lawmaker also assured residents that he would explore every possible avenue to facilitate the rehabilitation of the bridge, promising to sustain engagements with relevant authorities and stakeholders until a practical solution was achieved.

 

He expressed optimism that concerted efforts by stakeholders would lead to the restoration of the abandoned infrastructure and alleviate the difficulties being experienced by residents and road users in the affected communities.
