The flagbearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State for the 2023 governorship election, Senator Teslim Folarin, yesterday, debunked a news report that he was plotting an assassination attempt on the lawmaker representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency, Mr. Shina Peller.

Peller, in a video clip, had alleged that Folarin sent hired killers to assassinate him.

BUT Folarin, in a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists in Ibadan, specifically pointed accusing fingers at Governor Seyi Makinde, saying that the government was only trying to use such allegations to malign his person.

He said he was not an assassin and does not operate a death squad hence, he could not have sent hired killers after Peller or anyone.

The statement reads in part: “It is highly condemnable for Peller to publicly allege that I sent hired killers after him without stating the reason I should want to do so.

“I want to set the record straight that I do not have any anointed aspirant for the 2023 APC Oyo North Senatorial District seat but I’ll respect the decisions of the majority party members (delegates) in the district.

“Peller’s very serious allegation against my person is unacceptable and must be verified by the security agencies.”
MEANWHILE, the spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state, Akeem Olatunji, urged security agents, especially the police, to urgently investigate Folarin over the alleged assassination attempt on Peller’s life.

The PDP said that such allegation readily confirmed its fears about the desperation of some politicians in the state and that Folarin should leave Makinde out of APC’s matter.

Also, in his own reaction, Special Assistant (Print Media) to Oyo State Governor, Moses Alao, asked Folarin to desist from dragging Governor Makinde’s name into the controversies rocking the opposition party.

Alao, who gave the warning, yesterday, urged Folarin to bear the cross of his “desperate and evil political scheming,” which he said, had brought trouble to the APC.

He said that instead of pointing accusing fingers at the governor, Folarin should concentrate on fixing the myriad of problems facing his party.
