Oyo police arrest suspected murderers, cultists

Oyo State Police Command has arrested four suspected murderers and cultists for allegedly killing one Jimoh Akeem at Okun compound, Molete area in Oyo town.

Oyo State Police Command has arrested four suspected murderers and cultists for allegedly killing one Jimoh Akeem at Okun compound, Molete area in Oyo town.

The suspects: Najeem Rildwan and Maleek Odeyemi were paraded at the State Police Command headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.

Spokesperson for Oyo State Police Command, Adewale Osifeso, in a statement, yesterday, said: “On March 6, 2023 at about 0220hrs, some members of a dreaded criminal syndicate, who are also members of a dreaded secret cult organisation responsible for series of armed robbery attacks and needless killing of innocent members of the society with specific emphasis on Oyo town and environs invaded the house of one Kareem at Okun Compound Molete in Oyo town, Oyo State with guns, cutlasses and some other dangerous weapons.”

According to the police, the complainant managed to escape during the incursion of his assailants, but his friend Jimoh Akeem, who shared his apartment, was sleeping at the time and was murdered in the process.

He said the suspects vandalised properties in the house, carted away some valuable items and fled from the scene.

Osifeso added that in response to the distress received by operatives attached to the Command Monitoring Unit,  who at the time were on intelligence-led patrols rushed to the scene with the intent to salvage the situation, but unfortunately the deceased, Akeem was confirmed dead by the medical experts at the clinic where his remains was deposited.

Similarly, Olaniyan Monsuru, 28 and Abass Alaanu, 27,  were arrested for allegedly killing a 28-year-old victim, Olamilekan Ajakaye.

Ajakaye was brutally attacked and abandoned in the pool of his blood and fled when the notorious hoodlums invaded the Iseke area of Oyo town.

Osifeso said: “Upon interrogations, the suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime and gave explicit details of how the crime was carried out.

“Items recovered from the suspects include 25 live cartridges, one walkie-talkie, one UTC axe, one locally-made axe, one cutlass, one dagger, one knife, five pieces of plank with blood stains and video footage showing how the victim was attacked.”
