Renowned cleric Prophet Samuel Adebayo Ojo, famously known as Baba Authority, has described the recent wave of tragic stampedes during palliative distributions as a painful reflection of Nigeria’s deepening socioeconomic struggles. However, he offered a beacon of hope, declaring that “God has intervened” and that the country is on the brink of restoration.

Speaking at the conclusion of the 2024 Glory Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, which ran from December 18 to 22, Prophet Ojo expressed sorrow over the lives lost in chaotic palliative distribution events in Abuja, Ibadan, and Okija (in Anambra). The incidents, he noted, highlight systemic failings in addressing the plight of vulnerable Nigerians.

“Nigeria is bleeding,” he said. “These stampedes are not mere accidents. They are symptoms of a deeper malaise—a country grappling with poverty, inequality, and mismanagement. The cries of the people have reached God’s ears.”

The prophet pointed to rising unemployment, inflation, and hardship as driving factors behind the desperation that often leads to overcrowded and chaotic palliative centres. He underscored the need for practical and spiritual solutions to mitigate further tragedies.

Over the past weeks, stampedes at palliative distribution centres have claimed lives and left many injured. These incidents, caused by poor planning and lack of crowd control, have exposed the vulnerability of millions of Nigerians relying on aid during harsh economic conditions.

Despite the grim circumstances, Prophet Ojo assured Nigerians that divine intervention is already in motion. He urged the people to remain steadfast in faith while working collectively to address the nation’s challenges.

“God has heard the cries of His people and has intervened,” he said. “This intervention will bring about restoration, healing, and a turnaround for Nigeria. We must trust in His timing while acting with unity and purpose.”

Prophet Ojo also called on government officials, religious leaders, and civil society groups to step up and ensure that relief efforts reach those in need without risking lives.

“We need leaders who prioritise the welfare of the people. Relief must be distributed transparently, compassionately, and with proper planning to prevent further loss of life,” he emphasised.

The cleric’s message comes as Nigerians mourn the victims of these tragedies, while many question the efficiency of the systems managing relief distribution.

Prophet Ojo’s sermon balanced a reassurance of divine grace with a challenge to all Nigerians to take personal and collective responsibility.

“Nigeria will rise again,” he declared. “But it will take both divine grace and human responsibility. This is a time for faith, unity, and action.”

As the nation grapples with these crises, Prophet Ojo’s message serves as a reminder that hope and collective effort can bring about meaningful change. His call for compassion and effective leadership resonates deeply with a nation yearning for stability and progress.
