The Kano State chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Rabiu Sulaiman-Bichi has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Kano State chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Rabiu Sulaiman-Bichi has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Sulaiman-Bichi said he will make a formal announcement of his defection soon.

His defection comes two days after the Supreme Court affirmed Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of the APC as the duly elected governor of Kano State.

Sulaiman-Bichi have served the PDP and former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso in different capacities.

He was PDP’s returning officer during the governorship and presidential elections in 2011 and 2019.

During Kwankwaso’s first tenure as Kano governor from 1999-2003, Sulaiman-Bichi was the managing director of Kano State Urban Planning and Development Board (KNUPDA). He was also the commissioner for land matters.

He was also the secretary to the Kano State Government during the second tenure of Mr Kwankwaso from 2011 to 2015.

Sulaiman-Bichi resigned and defected to the APC during Ganduje’s first tenure.

PDP secretary in Kano, Shehu Sagagi said Sulaiman-Bichi had indicated interest to decamp from the party.

Sagagai said Sulaiman-Bichi is yet to inform the PDP about his defection.
