Pedestrian dies in Ogun auto crash

A 60-year-old pedestrian, David Rotimi, has died in an auto crash, in Ogun State, involving a Lexus ES 350 car with registration number KJA 363 JB Lagos, driven by 24-year-old Quzeem Olaniyan.

The police in Ogun State confirmed, yesterday, that the accident occurred on August 24, at about 3.50p.m., at Ilara Area along Agbowa Road via Ogijo.

According to eyewitness accounts, the accident occurred when the driver, who was travelling outward Ogijo, inward Agbowa, lost control of his vehicle on the intersecting road and knocked down the pedestrian who was walking by the shoulder of the road.

The Guardian learnt that the impact on the pedestrian was fatal, and he was rushed to Main Frame Hospital in Ogijo, but was later referred to General Hospital in Ikorodu Lagos, where the doctor on duty confirmed him dead.

The corpse has been evacuated to Jas Private Morgue at Ita Oluwole Ogijo for preservation, while efforts are underway to reach his family members.

A police source said the vehicle has been recovered to the Ogijo Police Station for inspection.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has cautioned motorists, motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians to exercise patience, reduce speed, and comply with other traffic rules for safer roads in the state.
