Permanent Secretary, son kidnapped in Niger
The Permanent Secretary, Niger State Ministry of Transport, Dr. Ibrahim Garba and his sonwere last Friday kidnapped by armed gunmen.
Report has it that the gunmen stormed Zungeru town in Wushishi Local Council and whisked their victims away.
The state Commissioner of Police, Monday Bala Kuryas, who disclosed this, said Dr. Garba and his son were kidnapped in his residence in Zungeru, after a wedding ceremony, held in his compound.
Kuryas assured that the command has begun investigation into the abduction. He promised that the perpetrators would be tracked down, while calling for useful information from the public.
Meanwhile, the state Governor, Abubakar Sani Bello, has condemned the kidnap, describing it as evil and inhumane.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mrs. Mary Noel Berje, he described as barbaric and atrocious bandits’ activities in Shiroro and Munya local councils recently, where many villagers were slaughtered, burnt and some kidnapped, as houses and foodstuffs were set ablaze.
Bello said with the recent turn of events, there is urgent need for total overhauling of strategy and security apparatus.
