Iran Television said President Masoud Pezeshkian will head a three-man interim leadership arrangement to guide Iran through a transitional period following the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, state television reported on Sunday.

Also appointed to the transition body are the Chief of the Judiciary, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, and a senior official from the country’s legal council. The information was disclosed by Iran TV, citing Mohammad Mokhber, one of Khamenei’s advisers.

Meanwhile, thousands of Iranians gathered on Sunday in central Tehran to mourn the late supreme leader.

The mourners, dressed mostly in black and with many in tears, converged at Enghelab Square, chanting “Death to America” and “Death to Israel,” while waving Iranian flags and holding portraits of Khamenei.
