• Zamfara communities protest over insecurity
Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) Lagos Publicity Secretary and Director of Digital Media, Rev. Tonye Oliver, has confirmed N42.6 million being raised to support victims displaced by recent violent attacks in Yelwata, Benue State.
The communities had suffered devastating assaults from unidentified assailants, leading to the displacement of hundreds of families. The attacks received backlash and concerns from individuals and organisations.
In a video, following the crisis, the Chairman of the PFN, Lagos State Chapter. Pastor Yemi Davids urged the church in Lagos to respond proactively, adding, “instead of cursing the darkness, the church must shine the light.”
In response, PFN Lagos, in partnership with Acts of Mercy and Sesor Empowerment Foundation, launched the Benue Relief Campaign to mobilise support for the affected communities.
According to Rev. Tonye Oliver, PFN Lagos Publicity Secretary and Director of Digital Media, Rev. Tonye Oliver, a total of N42.6 million was raised through generous contributions from churches and individuals across the nation’s economic capital.
The fund, according to the organisers, was used to procure mattresses, bedsheets, and essential household items.
“These relief materials were distributed to approximately 1,000 displaced families, with a major focus on those in IDP camps within Yelwata and surrounding areas,” they added.
THIS is even some communities in Ruwan Bore Ward, Gusau Local Council of Zamfara staged a peaceful protest over the incessant attacks by bandits.
The protesters, who took their march to the Government House, Gusau, were from Ruwan Bore, Mada, Wonaka, Fegin-Mahe, Kanawa, and Tudun Wada communities.
They appealed to the state government and security agencies to intervene in the security challenge in their communities by ensuring the protection of their lives and properties.
Aminu Bello from the Fegin-Mahe community, who spoke on behalf of the protesters, claimed that there was no presence of security operatives in the communities.
Contacted, the Vice Chairman of Gusau Local Government Area, Aminu Mada, acknowledged that there was a need to urgently address security concerns in the area.
