Pharmacists task government on insistence for proven coronavirus therapy
The Nigerian Association of Pharmacists and Pharmaceutical Scientists in the Americas (NAPPSA) has called on the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Federal Government to insist on scientific-based process in the quest for a solution to the novel coronavirus.
The appeal call was contained in the association’s updates on the global efforts to curtail the pandemic released yesterday by its president, Dr Anthony Ikeme, and the secretary, Dr Aloysius Ibe.
According to NAPPSA, it is imperative that NAFDAC, as the regulatory agency, be fully involved in the development and use of any drug to treat or prevent the pestilence for safety nationwide.
The pharmacists equally implored the President Muhammadu Buhari administration to support research and efforts to tame the ailment as well as avoid throwing its weight hastily behind any unproven cure.
