Plateau confirms 12 new cases, five deaths from Lassa fever
Plateau State Government yesterday confirmed 12 fresh cases and five deaths from Lassa fever in the state.
Speaking to journalists in Jos, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Kamshak Kuden said, “Five deaths have so far been recorded within the past few days. The state government is, however, putting plans in place to curb the spread of the disease.”
The five affected local government areas are, Jos North, Jos South, Bassa, Riyom and Shendam.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army Headquarters 3 Division, Jos reported the death of its personnel from suspected Lassa fever a fortnight ago.
“The soldier was admitted at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital, Jos until his demise. He contacted the disease after travelling to a neighbouring state,” the commissioner said.
