Plateau governor unperturbed by Useni’s decision to go to court
Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong has said he was unperturbed by the decision of his major opponent in the 2019 governorship elections, Senator Jeremiah Useni of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to challenge results of the elections in court.
Lalong said he was fully prepared for such eventualities long before the elections. “The last time I defeated them, they went to tribunal, I was very happy. Tribunal finished the case. So, anytime I am going into elections, as a lawyer, I am prepared for both the election and the legal experiment.”
When the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared elections inconclusive, Lalong said he needed only 2,000 votes during the supplementary elections to beat Useni.
The results then stood at APC having 583,255 votes with PDP 538,326 votes with the lead margin of 44,929 votes in favour of Lalong.
The election was declared inconclusive because the difference was lower than the cancelled votes of 48,000 votes.
