In the light of the improved security situation in the Jos-Bukuru metropolis, the Plateau State government has further relaxed the curfew, effective yesterday.

This is coming just as the Jasawa Community Development Association wants the restriction to be lifted completely.

Residents are now permitted to move freely for their lawful activities from 12 noon to 6.00 p.m. daily until further notice.

Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, in a statement yesterday by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, commended the people for their peaceful conduct during the curfew, and appealed for continued cooperation with security agencies to ensure the safety and security of the state.

Secretary-General of the Jasawa Community Development Association, Muhammad Tanko, while urging for calm, sought total lifting of the restriction, citing the economic hardship in the land.

He noted that the three-day curfew having yielded desired results, needed to be prolonged to avoid inflicting fresh economic challenges on the citizens.

“In the light of the above, we are appealing to the state government as well as security agencies to consider total lifting of the curfew to allow the people go about their lawful business, while the conventional security and their collaborators, the volunteer security are keeping watch of events,” he urged.

Tanko added: “At this juncture, we are also calling on parents to ensure good watch and guidance of their children against the potential threat that they are posing.

“It is necessary that we call for calm and maintenance of law and order among all the people.”

ALSO, the Kaduna State government has relaxed the restriction imposed on Kaduna and Zaria metropolises, saying residents are now free to move and engage in their businesses from 8.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m.

In a statement issued late on Wednesday night by the Coordinating Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, the government explained that “the Kaduna State Security Council, under the leadership of Governor Uba Sani, after a thorough review of the security situation in Kaduna and Zaria towns and environs, has unanimously agreed to relax the 24-hour curfew earlier imposed on Monday August 4, 2024.”

The government pointed out that the reviewed curfew took effect from yesterday.

MEANWHILE, a group, Citizens Coalition Against Corruption and Injustice, yesterday, said it had followed keenly the events of the last six days of the #EndBadGovernance protest across the federation.

In a statement by its co-convener, Chris Iyama , the group stated: “We want to register our displeasure and disappointment in the men of the Nigerian police.

“It is saddening to see the Nigerian police suppress, arrest, and use live ammunition on peaceful protesters, which has led to the death of over 30 citizens, including women and children, and the unlawful arrest and detention of over 200 peaceful protesters and journalists.

“These actions not only undermine democratic rights of citizens, but also against the international human rights charter which Nigeria is a signatory to.”
