
The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old man named Fred Monday for impersonating a police Inspector and participating in criminal activities.
The suspect was apprehended along with five suspected cultists during a cult initiation process in Luegbo Community, Khana Local Council. During the arrest on August 9, 2024, the fake inspector was found wearing a police camouflage uniform and carrying a gun and ammunition.
The State Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, revealed that the suspect’s true identity was uncovered after interrogation. It was discovered that he had purchased an AK-47 rifle, 10 magazines, and 29 rounds of live ammunition from an accomplice named Goodluck, also known as Boy-J, in 2021.
Disu disclosed that the five cultists arrested alongside Monday, all students of Ken Saro Wiwa Polytechnic, have been charged in court and remanded in a correctional centre.
The Police Commissioner stated that the police are making progress in the investigation of Monday’s gang. Additionally, a special team comprising operatives from the FID-Intelligence Response Team and the Rivers State Command apprehended nine suspects linked to the assassination of Chief Ndidi Livingstone, the former Community Development Council (CDC) Chairman of Mgbuoshimini, on January 13, 2024.
The suspects are Nnamdi Emmanuel (aka BYC), John Lucas, Adebayo Adebayo, Chimezie Adiele, Ogolo Promise, Chigemezu Anochirimoyanya, Success Oge, Ifeanyi Nwadike, and Sunday Godspower (aka 2baba).
They were captured in different locations across the country following a nationwide manhunt. The police boss stated that the investigation uncovered the involvement of the suspects in a sophisticated kidnapping and armed robbery gang.
They are allegedly responsible for numerous crimes, including the murder of Chief Livingstone, who was shot four times with AK-47 rifles in front of his church.
The suspects reportedly have a history of criminal activities, such as kidnapping, armed robbery, and murder. They were found in possession of a cache of weapons, including two AK-47 rifles, one assault rifle, two SMG rifles, one shotgun rifle, 10 magazines, 150 rounds of live ammunition, and one pistol.
During the parade, Disu revealed that the suspects will be charged in court once investigations are concluded. He also said that efforts are ongoing to apprehend more suspects connected to the gang and to recover additional arms and ammunition.
