Police arrest couple in Minna for alleged self kidnap

Niger State Police Command has arrested Mohammed Mohammed and his wife, Sadiya for alleged conspiracy and self kidnap.

A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Wasiu Abiodun, said the couple, residents of Minna, Chanchaga Local Council, Niger State, were arrested July 22, 2021, in Limawa Ward.

According to the statement, Sadiya was reportedly kidnapped on July 15, at Old Airport Road, Minna, after work.

It added that Sadiya’s father was contacted through an unknown GSM number, with the caller demanding N5m ransom for his daughter’s release. After negotiation, her father paid N1m for Sadiya’s release.

Abiodun explained that Sadiya was invited by the Police for questioning on July 21, 2021, and she confessed to having conspired with her husband, Mohammed Mohammed, to fake her kidnap as she was kept at Nugupi Village for some days.

The husband also confessed to giving his mobile phone to Abdullahi, one of his friends, who negotiated and received the ransom.

The statement explained that the suspects would be arraigned in court, as soon as the investigation was concluded.
