Police arrest four suspects, recover ammunition, stolen property in Rivers

Operatives of the Rivers State Police Command have apprehended four male suspects linked to criminal activities in Oyigbo Local Council.

The suspects, Peter Victor, Joshua Ibe, Shedrack David, and Joseph Acholam, were arrested during a targeted raid on Blessing Street, Kom-Kom.

In a statement, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed that the suspects were found in possession of one round of 7.62×51mm live ammunition and containers containing substances suspected to be hard drugs. She further revealed that the suspects confessed to being part of a criminal syndicate responsible for acts of terror in Oyigbo and surrounding areas.

In a separate operation, police officers from the Rumuji Division intercepted a black Toyota Sienna with registration number ABIA, APR 455 HW, in the early hours of January 27, 2025. The vehicle, driven by one Frank Ukpebitere, was transporting 2,000 tons of 48 VDC Power System Cabinets belonging to Airtel Telecommunications Company.

Iringe-Koko said the suspect failed to provide valid documentation or a satisfactory explanation for the items, which are suspected to have been stolen. She said: “Upon inspection, officers discovered the vehicle was transporting 2,000 tons of 48 VDC Power System Cabinets, identified as the property of Airtel Telecommunications Company. The suspect failed to provide a satisfactory explanation or documentation for the transportation of these items.”

The suspect and the recovered items are currently in police custody as investigations continue.

The command reassured the public of its commitment to combating crime and ensuring justice, urging residents to cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace and order.
