Police arrest man for allegedly impregnating teenage daughter

The police in Ogun State have arrested a man, Taofeek Oyeyemi, for allegedly impregnating his 16-year-old daughter. Taofeek, 42, was arrested following a complaint by the girl’s mother who reported at Ewekoro police station that her daughter, who has been living with her ex-husband, was pregnant.

She told the police that her daughter said she was impregnated by her father who also took her to a quack medical doctor to procure an abortion, adding that her daughter has not ceased bleeding since the alleged abortion was carried out.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who made this known in a statement, said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ewekoro division, SP Rotimi Jeje, detailed policemen to go after the suspect and arrested him.

Abimbola stated that the suspect has 17 children from different women and had admitted committing the incestuous act with his daughter many times before the pregnancy occurred. He also proceeded to have the girl abort the pregnancy.

According to the police spokesman, the girl’s mother had separated from him years back and was living with her daughter until six months ago when he forcefully took the girl away from his estranged wife.

“All efforts made by the mother to take custody of her daughter proved abortive. It was when the mother came to visit her daughter that she discovered the atrocity committed by the suspect against her daughter,” Abimbola stated.

The suspect would be transferred to the Anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department for thorough investigation and prosecution.
