Police arrest soldier, others for kidnapping, rape

Men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad of the Oyo State Police Command has nabbed a soldier and two other for kidnapping, robbery and rape. While parading the suspects at the police headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan, the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Odude, said the gang was led by one Rasak Olaide.

The CP disclosed the modus operandi of the suspects who were usually clad in a military camouflage was to go about kidnapping people, robbing and sexually abusing their female victims. He said: “The suspect had been carrying out these criminal activities for some time until they were caught recently.”

The police boss reiterated that the suspects armed with guns, jack knife and other dangerous weapons abducted one Rasak Micheal and his girlfriend Rashidat at Mobile Area, Oluyole, Ibadan and took them to an hotel where they were till the next day before they were released.

“While they were in captivity, the suspects took turns to rape the female victim and videotape the sex escapade for the purpose of blackmail in future. The suspects also stole the victims’ ATM cards having forcefully obtained the pin number and unlawfully withdrew large sums of money from the victims’ bank account.”

The leader of the gang, Azeez Olaide, admitted that they actually perpetrate the act.

Meanwhile, a 40-year-old man, Murtala Mohammed, was arrested for impersonating as a police officer and obtaining money by false pretense.

While parading the suspect, Odude said the impostor who pretended to be an Assistant Superintendent of Police in connivance with one Alhaji Yahaya, fraudulently collected various amount of money amounting to over a million naira from one Adamu Abubakar, Yinusa Chiroma and others under the pretext that he could help them to facilitate resolution of cases involving members of their community.
