Imo State Police Command has arrested a man, Ozor Nwako, who allegedly makes guns locally and sells them to criminals.

Arrest of the suspect, known as Welder, from Isiozi Umuakachi in Isu-Njaba Local Council of the state, was disclosed by the command’s spokesman, Micheal Abattam.

Abattam further disclosed that the suspect was apprehended following a tip-off by two suspected armed robbers, who were also arrested for terrorising residents and unsuspecting victims along Isu-Njaba road of the state.

The two suspected robbers were identified as Obiaka Uchenna ‘m’ age 23 years of Isiozi Umuaka in Isu-Njaba and Micheal Ihunna ‘m’ age 24 years of Uba Umuaka in Isu-Njaba.

He stated: “Sequel to the command’s commitment to step down the tide of crime and criminality in the state, to ensure that Imolites observed crime-free yuletide, the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Hussaini, directed the command’s tactical teams to embark on vigorous stop and search patrols of the nooks and crannies of the state.

“On November 1, 2021, about 1300 hours, the command’s tactical teams, in line with the CP’s directive, while on aggressive patrols along Isu-Njaba road, arrested two young men, whom information revealed that were the ones robbing unsuspecting victims along Isu-Njaba road of the state. The suspects were brought to the station and, on interrogation, they confessed to the crime and mentioned one Ozor Nwako as the one who manufactured and sold guns to them. They admitted to having bought the two recovered guns from him.”

While commending his men for a task well executed, Hussaini charged them to intensify their patrols and make sure they are intelligence-led.
