Police arrest suspected killers of two cops in Okija

Anambra State Commissioner of Police (CP), Echeng Echeng, yesterday, announced arrest of masterminds of the attack at a police station in Okija, Ihiala Local Council of the state, in which two police officers were killed.

Echeng, who addressed officers and men of the command during a visit of the Assistant Inspector General in charge of zone 13, AIG Umar Muri, at the police headquarters, Amawbia, said the mastermind of the operation was arrested on Wednesday with three of his men.

He said the suspects had given useful information that would assist the command in improving on the security situation.

He said: “We’re delighted to announce the improvement on the security situation in the state. Many of the so-called unknown gunmen have been apprehended, weapons and vehicles recovered and victims rescued.

“Just yesterday, we had a breakthrough in the command. In March, one of our stations at Okija was attacked and we lost two of our men. We want to announce that the mastermind of that operation was picked up, yesterday, with three of his men.

“They’ve given us enough clues that will assist us improve on where we are today.

“We lay high premium on capacity building to boost the command’s capability in confronting security challenges.”

While appreciating the AIG for his support to the command, Echeng attributed the strides recorded to such support and advices.

He added: “Successes recorded could not have been possible without those useful advice. We recall the time we were incapacitated by withdrawal of officers from the command, leading to shortage of manpower. You assisted us with personnel.”

Responding, the AIG recalled that the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Alkali Baba, has made lots of commitments to ensure high morale of men of the force, including kitting, prompt salaries, renovation of four police colleges, operational vehicles, among other things.

He praised men and officers of the command for their patriotism and efforts in fighting crimes and insecurity, just as he stressed the code of conduct for serving officers and men.
