Police confirm abduction of DVC, students of Nasarawa varsity

The police in Nasarawa State have confirmed the abduction of Prof. Kuje Ayuba, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (DVC) of the Nasarawa State University (NSUK), at his residence in Keffi and four students of the institution by unidentified gunmen.
 
The Guardian gathered that the kidnappers operated at the DVC’s residence between 9:30p.m. and 11:45p.m. on Sunday. Also, on Monday night, the same kidnapping gang stormed the student’s community at Angwan Kare, Keffi, and abducted four new students of the university at about 9:00p.m.
  
Residents of the community in Keffi, who spoke to The Guardian said that the kidnappers went on rampage in the school communities where students and staff are resident and operated without interruption for more than four hours, raiding homes and rooms with sporadic shootings that scared the residents.
  
The residents who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Keffi is no longer safe as gunmen could operate freely for two consecutive nights.
 Confirming the development, spokesperson for the state police command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Ramhan Nansel, said the command was aware of the abduction at about 12:55a.m., as a distress call was received that a house located at Angwan Kaare, Keffi, was invaded by unidentified armed men.
  
He said the police in collaboration with the military responded accordingly and combed the area, but to no avail. According to him, the Commissioner of Police has ordered a manhunt for the culprits with a view to rescuing the victims unhurt
 
Meanwhile, the university authority was yet to make any comment at press time, while the victims are still held hostage.
