Police intercept 900 ammunition in Abuja
Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have intercepted about 900 ammunitions transported from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Abuja.
The ammunitions, comprising cartridges of sophisticated weapons, concealed among bathroom slippers and transported via a commercial luxury bus, was intercepted by decoy operatives in Abuja sequel to intelligence.
Driver of the bus, Anthony Udeh, and the conductor, Emmanuel Onuvu, claimed the items were given to them to deliver to someone in Abuja and that they didn’t check the content of the bag.
Reacting to the development, the new FCT Commissioner of Police, Sadiq Abubakar, said the arrest was in a bid to ensure safety of life and property of FCT residents, especially those on the border towns. He warned criminal elements to avoid the FCT, as they would be adequately smoked out.
The CP about 18 suspects had also been arrested for various crimes since his resumption as the new FCT police boss. Giving a breakdown of the arrests, he said on December 22, 2022, around 3.00am, operatives of the command attached to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) arrested Ibrahim Umar, Nurudeen Yunusa, Muhammed Ahmed, Yunusa Ibrahim, Amodu Ahmed, Zakari Muhammed, Yusuf Ibrahim, Isah Labaran, Muhammed Mahammed and Salihu Suleiman, all male, for armed robbery and other heinous crimes.
He said the suspects were arrested at You and You Hotel, Sambisa, Masaka Area of Nasarawa State and the following items were found in their possession: three AK-47 rifles, four G-3 rifles, 122 live ammunitions of 7.62mm, one locally-made pistol without ammunition, three ballistic vests, six AK-47 empty magazines, seven G-3 empty magazines and various charms.
Other exhibits recovered from them included: one police sergeant warrant card, one vigilante identity card, one civil defence identity card, one Toyota Camry 2000 model (gold colour) with Reg No. GGE 702 CH, one Golf 3 wagon (green colour) with Reg. No KWL 22 GQ, two generators and one filing machine.
The police said investigation was still in progress as the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
