Police kill three suspected kidnappers,  recover stolen items in Delta

Men of Rapid Response Squad of Delta State police Command have killed three suspected kidnappers along Asaba-Benin Expressway during a gun duel. The Guardian gathered that the suspected kidnappers, five in all, ambushed their victims when the squad in Asaba ran into them on Sunday     Following this development, a gun duel ensued between the hoodlums and police, which resulted in the death of three members of the gang, while two escaped into the bush.

       
The Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Bright Edafe,  yesterday confirmed the incident in  Asaba. He said: “Operatives of the Command’s Rapid Response Squad on Sunday, at about 1235hrs, while on undercover anti-crime patrol along Asaba -Benin Expressway, encountered armed hoodlums suspected to be kidnappers, numbering about five, suddenly as they emerged from the bush around Umunede, and fired gunshots at the space bus in an attempt to rob and possibly kidnap the occupants. Unknown to them, the occupants were undercover police operatives.
   
“The team smartly disembarked from the vehicle and returned fire. The hoodlums realising that their potential victims were policemen ran into the bush.
   
“The team went into a fierce gun duel with the hoodlums during which three members of the gang were fatally wounded and one fabricated revolver pistol, six 7.62mm live ammunition, four expended 7.62mm ammunition were recovered from them.
   
“The injured hoodlums were taken to the hospital, but died while receiving treatment. Manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang is ongoing.” Edafe also said that on June 4, 2022 at about 1445hrs, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Cult Unit, acting on a tip-off, raided a criminal hideout in an uncompleted building along Mariam Babangida way opposite North-West Filling Station, Asaba, the State capital, during which 540 rounds of live cartridges, three Elepac Generators, one solar light, one Singer sewing machine, two television sets and one Lifan motorcycle, all suspected to have been stolen were recovered and the suspect named Suleiman Musa ‘m’ aged 48 was arrested”.
   
The Police image maker added that operatives of Eagle-Net Special Squad on Sunday while “on Aberdeen system of patrol along Asaba Ogwashi-Uku Expressway, intercepted a commercial vehicle, subjected it to search, and recovered 4,054 wraps of substance, suspected to be cocaine and 954 wraps of heroin”.
    
He said the items were recovered in a bag belonging to one of the passengers, named Edea Samuel ‘m’ aged 20 of Ochele Street, off Ojugbana Drive Ezenei, Asaba.
