Police kill two terrorists, rescue eight kidnap victims

Spokesman for the command, Gambo Isah, said one of the terrorists was killed yesterday morning, during an encounter with terrorists at in Malumfashi Local Council.

Isah disclosed this, yesterday, at the police headquarters where the rescued victims, the bodies of the terrorist and the recovered rifles were displayed.

According to Isah, the eight victims were abducted from communities in Malumfashi.

He added that 82 cows and 79 sheep were recovered from the terrorists, along with one AK-47 rifle, during the gunfight.

A police team led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kankara reportedly blocked the terrorists’ escape route, leading to a fierce gun battle.

“About 12.40 a.m. on February 17, 2022, a distress call was received that terrorists in their numbers, armed with sophisticated weapons, including AK-47 rifles, riding on motorbikes attacked Fuloti and Karfi villages in Malumfashi Local Council, kidnapped women and rustled domestic animals, and were on their way to Kankara.

“Consequently, DPO Kankara led a team of policemen and blocked the hoodlums at a spot near Zurunkutun, crossing the Kankara–Sheme road. The team engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun duel and neutralised one of them, rescued four female victims and their babies, recovered one AK-47 rifle, 82 cows and 70 sheep,” Isah stated.

He added that the second terrorist was killed during a gunfight with the police on Tuesday evening, along the Kankara – Zangi road.

“The police operatives were mobilised to the location where they engaged in another fierce gun duel with the terrorists.”

“The terrorist was killed in the process, while a brand new Boxer motorcycle used by the terrorists for operation was also recovered,” the police spokesman added, noting that investigation was still in progress.
