Police manhandle journalist in Taraba
A Journalist with the Radio Dandakura International, Ahmed Umar, has protested the inhuman treatment meted out at him yesterday by policemen in Tella Village in Gassol Local Council of Taraba State.
Umar said the policemen manhandled him because of his efforts to save the driver and the passengers of the vehicle he boarded from being extorted and harassed.
He said: “When I demanded why they have continued to harass and extort money from innocent road-users despite several warnings by the Inspector General of Police, the policemen harassed and threatened to kill me after identifying myself.”
Meanwhile, efforts to speak with the spokesperson of the force in the state proved abortive, but a senior police officer, who claimed anonymity, said “such report had not been brought to our notice.”
