Gombe State Police Command has arrested a 27-year -old mechanic, who specialises in stealing unsuspecting customers’ vehicles after repairs. The artisan, Muhammad Muhammad, popularly called Bappah of Jekadafari quarters, in the state metropolis, was among other suspects paraded yesterday at the police headquarters, Gombe. He was arrested on November 1, 2022.
Bappah told newsmen during interrogation that he once stole a Honda Civic, motorcycle and a white-colour Peugeot 406 before his arrest. Earlier, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Ishola Babaita, who explained the antics of Bappah said: “This mechanic, after delivering vehicles to customers, always goes back later to steal them.
“One Manu Siddiki of Orji quarters had patronised Bappah along the Central Bank road for the repair of his Peugeot 406 ignition.
“ The customer allegedly asked Bappah to bring the vehicle to his house. Few minutes after the vehicle was parked outside, it was reported stolen with valuables put at over N850,000 by an unknown person.
“Investigation however led detectives to the suspect, Bappah who later owned up during interrogation.
“He confessed to have taken the vehicle to Bauchi State where he sold it at N180,000.”
ALSO, the police boss paraded another five suspects for allegedly snatching a white colour Peugeot 406 marked: ABUJA: BWR 351 CH with original documents and other valuables.
The suspects were: Muktar Mohammed, 30; Jesse Julius, 38; Uzairu Mohammed, 23; Halilu Hussein, 32 and Danlami Baba,38. They allegedly sold the vehicle to a waiting buyer in Kano.
