Police nab suspected armed robber, 77-year-old gun runner in Delta

The Police have arrested a 77-year- old gun runner, Mr. Michael Enipozi and an armed robbery suspect for allegedly being in possession of three double barrel guns, two single barrel guns and other tools used in producing guns in Delta State.

They were arrested at Ozoro Division on November 20, 2021 about 0500hrs in Irri Village, Isoko South  Local Council of the state.
  
According to the Command’s spokesman,  DSP Bright Edafe, three suspected armed robbers, in the premises of one man (names withheld) along  Ozoro/ Ughelli road,  were operating when information reached  to the police and the vigilante.
 
And following the information, he said, a combined team of Police/vigilante chased the suspects to the scene, but the  suspected armed robbers on sighting the police took to their heels and the team gave them a hot chase,  during which one of the suspects, named Emma Ighodalo ‘m’ of Irri village,  aged 28 years was arrested with one live cartridge.

   
The PPRO said two members of his gang narrowly escaped, but
the arrested suspect upon interrogation, confessed that he threw his gun away somewhere in the bush as he was running and that he  bought the said gun from One Michael Enipozi, for the sum of N30,000.
 
He said: “The suspect, thereafter, led the Police to Irri village,  where the said  Michael Enipozi ‘m’ of Irri, aged 77 years was arrested with three double barrel guns,  two single barrel guns and other tools used in producing guns were recovered from him.
 
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the 77- year-old suspect is a welder, who produces guns for criminals and he admitted that he sold the gun to the suspect and that he has been in the business of producing guns for the past 20 years”.
 
Also,  Edafe confirmed the arrest of a 65- year-old Solomon Udanya at a hideout in Emevor Community in Isoko North Council by operatives attached to the Command crack squad.
 
He said 30 rounds of live cartridges, one single barrel long gun, three packets of tramadol, six bottles of codeine and various contraband drugs were recovered from him.
