Kaduna State Police Command has ordered investigation into the death of House of Assembly member, Rilwanu Gadagau, who was killed by suspected bandits along Zaria-Kaduna Highway on Monday night.

“The Command is saddened by this tragic loss of life. The Commissioner of Police has directed that a thorough investigation be carried out to unravel the identity of the person or group of persons who carried out this dastardly act and make them face the full wrath of the law,” said a statement by police spokesman, ASP Mohammed Jalige, yesterday.

The remains of the late Gadagau were laid to rest in Zaria, yesterday. Malam Muhammad-Sani Gummi, Chief Imam, Kongo Central Mosque, led the funeral prayers.

The funeral was attended by Governor Nasir el-Rufai; Speaker, Kaduna State House of Assembly, Yusuf Zailani; and other top government functionaries. The Speaker was represented by Majority Leader of the Assembly, Mohammed Dan-Asabe.

Disclosing how the corpse was discovered, Jalige said: “Today (yesterday), December 15, 2021, at about 0900hrs, information received from a good Samaritan from Zura Village noted that an unidentified motionless human body was seen lying in the bush.

“The Divisional Police Officer, on getting the information, immediately mobilised and led a team of policemen to the scene. Signs of violent injuries were noticed all over the lifeless body. The body was thereafter evacuated to Hajiya Gambo Sawaba Hospital for autopsy.”
