The Imo State Police command and the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri have dismissed report on social media that the kidnapped Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Archdiocese, Dr. Moses Chikwe, has been killed, beheaded and his body discovered.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Imo State Police Command, SP Orlando Ikeokwu told The Guardian yesterday that the story was not true, urging people to rely on the statement issued by the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri.

“The social media story on the killing of Chikwe is false. There is no information so far on his abduction and the Archdiocese has issued a statement refuting the report,“ he stated.

Also, a statement issued by Assistant Secretary of the Archdiocese, Reverend Father Nnaemeka Njezi, on behalf of the Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Owerri, good spirited Nigerians to disregard the report by one Useni Yusuf at AI Press that Chikwe had been killed.

“The information is unconfirmed, misleading and did not emanate from the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri. We appeal to everyone to join the Archbishop in prayers for the release of Bishop Chikwe and his driver, Ndubuisi Robert,” the statement reads.

Chikwe and Robert were abducted last Sunday evening after officiating at a Church service around World Bank axis in Owerri.

It was learnt that shortly after his abduction, the kidnappers returned his vehicle and bishopric regalia to the premises of the Assumpta Catholic Cathedral, Owerri and walked away.
