Cross River State Police Command has paraded a 21-year-old suspect in possession of a Multi-Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG), 375 live AK 47 ammunition and 86 rounds of MPMG.

The suspect, Godwin Ubung, who was paraded yesterday at the command headquarters in Calabar, was arrested in Obudu Local Government Area of the state, while his accomplice, Christopher Udie fled.

The New Police Commissioner, Mr. Aminu Alhassan, while briefing newsmen, on official resumption, said Ubung was stopped by his men on a motorcycle along with Udie , who abandoned the motorcycle and took to his heels.

The suspect, who cried inconsolably, claimed that Udie ( at large) was his cousin and only asked him to accompany him to the park.”

Ubung, a native of Obudu said, “Christopher is my cousin, he picked me from my house and asked me to drop him at the park and take his motorcycle to the mechanic to repair, when we approached the police checkpoint, close to Sankwala junction park along ranch road, they stopped us and asked us where we were going, I came down from the motorcycle, they asked what was in the bag he was carrying, before I knew it, my cousin threw the bag on the ground and ran, I didn’t know what was in the bag, I don’t know anything about this.” Ubung cried.

While counseling officers and men to be professional in curbing security threats in the state, the Police boss said the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Baba Ahmed Alkali, was opposed to impunity, saying he was willing to ensure that peoples’ rights were respected during his tenure.
