The police in Kogi State, have commenced investigation into alleged attack on the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) campaign rally at Kotonkarfi area of Kogi Local Council.

Confirming this development in a statement, yesterday, spokesperson for the Command, Superintendent of Police (SP), William Ovye Aya, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police (CP), Bertrand Onuoha, condemned politicians, whose stock-in-trade was violence, while sympathising with victims of political violence in the state.

According to him, these set of people have taken it upon themselves to cause mayhem, and heat up the polity, through unguarded utterances and unregulated activities, which cannot be justified in any way.

CP Onuoha assured of the command’s commitment to the safety and security of lives and property in Kogi State. He warned that anyone caught disturbing the peace of the state would be dealt with according to the law, no matter how highly placed.

Recall that there have been accusations and counter accusations between members of All Progressive Congress (APC) and SDP in the area, over attacks on their members, where a life was lost, and some others injured.
