The Taraba State Police Command, in collaboration with the military and local hunters, has rescued an Israeli national, Mr. Gil Itamar, who was abducted by armed criminals in Atim Community along the Takum/Chanchangi road.
According to a police report, Itamar, a staff member of SCC Company, was kidnapped while being escorted by military personnel.
The alarm was raised by Alhaji Saidu, a fellow staff member of SCC, who promptly reported the abduction to law enforcement authorities.
“The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Takum swiftly mobilised a team comprising police officers, personnel from the 67 PMF, the military, and local hunters.
“A coordinated search-and-rescue operation ensued, culminating in the successful rescue of the victim at Kofai Ahmadu after a fierce exchange of gunfire with the abductors,” the command’s spokesperson, James Leshen, said.
He said overwhelmed by security forces, the kidnappers were forced to retreat, thereby abandoning their hostage.
He said Itamar is currently undergoing medical evaluation at SCC Company’s medical facility in Takum.
“Security forces have intensified efforts to track down the fleeing criminals, vowing to bring them to justice,” Leshen said.
Commending the joint efforts of the rescue team, the Commissioner of Police, CP Bretet Emmanuel Simon, reaffirmed the command’s
commitment to maintaining law and order in the state.
He also issued a stern warning to criminal elements, declaring that Taraba will not serve as a haven for illegal activities.
