The Ogun state police command has cautioned motorists and motorcyclists to stop driving on a one-way route during traffic, especially on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

This is contained in a statement by the police spokesman, ABIMBOLA OYEYEMI, on Wednesday.

“The Ogun state police command has observed with dismay the rate at which motorists and motorcyclists are driving against traffic whenever there is little traffic jam in any of our highways, most especially on Lagos-Ibadan expressway,” Oyeyemi said.

Oyeyemi stated that this indiscipline and barbaric attitude by vehicle users have led to many accidents and loss of lives.

He gave an instance where a truck driver, who was driving against traffic, crushed three people in the Obada Oko axis.

“ Also, the attitude of those reckless drivers is making things difficult along Lagos/Ibadan expressway, where construction work is currently going on,” he added.

Oyeyemi added that anybody caught driving against traffic will have his/her vehicle impounded and such driver will be diligently prosecuted.

He disclosed that the commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed Divisional Police Officer (DPOs), Area commanders and traffic officers across the state to go all out for those recalcitrant drivers who are in the habit of driving against traffic.

The Command urged the general public to desist from driving against traffic anywhere in the state, anyone caught in such act will have him/herself to blame, no matter the status of such person.
