• Milestone underscores commitment to food security, modern agriculture, economic growth
• Tree planting, a reaffirmation of collective responsibility, says Abiodun

The Poultry Farm of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Council in Ogun State has recorded another significant milestone in its drive to modernise agriculture, strengthen food security and maximise the economic value of public investment, following the successful transfer of its birds to a battery cage system.

The exercise involved birds aged 85 days, with no mortality recorded, further demonstrating the effectiveness of the farm’s management and animal health protocols.

A supervisor in the farm described the successful transition as a testament to the effectiveness of the management system.

MEANWHILE, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has described tree planting as a collective responsibility to protect the environment, restore degraded ecosystems, and ensure a future in which economic progress and environmental sustainability advance together.

Abiodun stated this during the commemoration of the 2026 Ogun Tree Planting Day, themed “Root for the Future: Plant a Tree, Heal the Earth,” held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Hilltop, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The council, which said that the poultry project was part of its broader agricultural development strategy aimed at boosting local food production, creating employment, empowering the people and expanding the revenue base of the council, reaffirmed its determination to expand the facility, embrace modern farming technologies and deploy best management practices, with the ultimate goal of making the poultry farm a model of productive public-sector agriculture in Ogun State.

The governor, represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, said that this year’s theme of the Ogun Tree Planting Day is particularly timely as climate change is no longer a distant concern as rising temperature, flooding, long dry season, land degradation and biodiversity loss realities are increasingly affecting our communities, livelihood and economy, adding that environmental stewardship is now an essential part of sustainable development.

He, therefore, commended the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for priortising enveironmental sustainability through initiatives, such as the Nigeria Energy Transition Plan, National Clean Cooking Policy, Afforestation and Ecosystem Restoration, Climate Safe Investments and Carbon Market Development, saying that Ogun State remains committed to supporting these national objective through her investment in afforestation, renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, green infrastructure, waste management and environmental sanitation and improvement in flood control mechanism.
