Methodist Church Nigeria has called on Christians to pray for worthy leaders to emerge as winners in the 2023 general elections.

Methodist Church Nigeria has called on Christians to pray for worthy leaders to emerge as winners in the 2023 general elections.

This was contained in the communiqué at the 28th yearly Synod, with the theme: “Prepare for the second coming of Jesus Christ” signed by Bishop, Diocese of Lagos Mainland, Most Reverend Obafemi Adeleye and Lay President, Olusola Adu, yesterday.

Citizens were admonished not to be financial- induced by politicians, as doing that would sway away from their votes and conscience and deprive the nation of the true dividends of democracy.

The church called on members to get their Permanent Voters Card (PVCs) and offered support to those interested in partisan politics.

Synod urged the Federal Government to proffer solutions to the myriad of challenges faced by citizens, including hunger, hyperinflation and insecurity.

On the refusal of the present political class to restructure along the geopolitical zones of Nigeria, Synod reiterated the need for the establishment of six geopolitical regional governments.

“This will help achieve the onerous responsibility of citizens enjoying economic prosperity via even equitable distributions of national resources, which is practicable now, as it was achieved during the First Republic,” the statement reads.
