President’s wife disburses grants to Delta, Kaduna women petty traders

While disbursing the grants at the RHI Economic Empowerment programme, ‘Recapitalisation Grants for 1,000 Women Petty Traders’, in Asaba, the First Lady explained that the grants would assist the women overcome some of their business challenges.

She noted that the gesture was meant to address the challenges the women petty traders face.

Mrs Tinubu stressed that petty traders form the backbone of the nation’s local economies and should not be left in the lurch to face these challenges. She thanked the women for their courage and resilience in putting food on their families’ tables.

According to her, the money is also expected to expand their businesses, create more jobs, and contribute more robustly to the nation’s economy.

IN the same vein, no fewer than 1,000 women petty traders in Kaduna State have also been empowered by the Federal Government, under the Renewed Hope Initiative Economic Empowerment Programme.

Under the initiative, the First Lady made a cash disbursement of N50,000 to the petty traders in the state to boost their businesses. The President’s wife, during the occasion, which was held at the Umaru Yar’Adua Hall, Kaduna, yesterday, said that N1.8 billion has been earmarked for petty traders under the initiative.

She said: “This event is being held simultaneously across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).”
