
Prominent Northern legal luminary, Yunus Ustaz Usman (SAN), has died at the age of 67.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Kaduna State Chapter announced the passing of Usman in Kaduna on Wednesday.
The Chairman of the NBA Kaduna Branch, Godwin Ochai, expressed deep sorrow at the loss of Usman, describing him as a distinguished and respected member of the Bar.
Usman’s funeral prayer will be held at the Sultan Bello mosque after Asr prayers, followed by his burial at the Unguwar Rimi cemetery according to Islamic rites.
Ochai praised Usman’s exceptional legal expertise, professionalism, and contributions to the development of the legal profession in Nigeria. He also extended condolences to Usman’s family, the Bar, and loved ones.

Born on November 15, 1957, in Ogboghodo Village, Dekina Local Government Area (LGA) of Kogi State, Usman had a remarkable life marked by achievements and dedication to the law. He was the Principal Partner of Yunus Ustaz Usman (SAN) & Company, with offices in Kaduna and Abuja.
Usman will be remembered for his interventions in the lives of many Nigerians, particularly the downtrodden. He was known for fighting for indigent students who couldn’t pay school fees and paying medical bills for patients held hostage due to an inability to pay hospital bills.
Called to the Nigerian Bar on July 30, 1983, Usman rose to the pinnacle of the profession, becoming the fifth person from Northern Nigeria to be conferred with the prestigious rank of SAN. He also delivered a keynote address at the University of Brighton in 2016, becoming the first Black lawyer to address the university in its history lecture series.
Besides, the late legal luminary will also be remembered as a lawyer close to the former late Minister, Wada Nas, and handled most of his cases.
