Proprietor urges government to prioritise education
The proprietor, Tmeon Kairos Polytechnic and Professional Institute, an accredited institution by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Federal Government and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Dr. Titus Oyeyemi, has appealed to the federal and state governments to give prominence to technical education because of its relevance in this technological dispensation.
Oyeyemi, who is also the Proprietor, Timeon Kairos Educational and Vocational Institute, made the appeal during the open house event of the institution which took place on the school’s premises at Abule-Egba, Lagos.
He lamented the dichotomy between the HND holders and their counterparts, BSc degree holders, an issue which according to him ought to have been harmonised by now.
“There is no reason for looking down on HND certificate holders because they are exposed to practical and technological training while holders of BSc degrees only pass through theoretical studies.
“In the absence of every exaggeration, holders of HND certificate are innovative and good at using their brain to do marvelous things.
“Full fledged tertiary institutions recognised and approved by the government, equipped with a standard workshop and studio equipment, complying with JAMB regulations and having requisite accreditations for all approved courses such as ours, have the ability to produce efficient HND certificate holders,” he said.
Oyeyemi also commended proprietors of technical schools for preparing their students to stand on their own after graduation instead of looking for white colar jobs that are scarce.
Oyeyemi, who is the founding President/Chief Executive Officer, African Projects/Foundation for Peace and Love Initiatives, commended NBTE for making provisions for National Innovative Diploma, a variation of technical education for students who are more technically inclined than in just academics.
The school Rector, Idowu Ekundayo, gave kudos to the springing up of institutions with technical education equipped with standard classrooms, laboratories, workshops, hostels and amenities that make training very convenient which he said Timeon Kairos Polytechnic, Education and Vocational Institute is part of.
At the event were Asalu Oba of Orile Agege, Chief Saheed Obadina, Balogun of Orile Agege, Chief Ismail Arowojobe and Prince Gabriel Agbedeyi who were representatives of Alagege of Orile Agege, Oba Akeem Ambaliu Agbedeyi.
